International Koresh competitions were held in Kyrgyzstan with the participation of 170 athletes from 11 countries

From August 21 to 25, the picturesque city of Cholpon-Ata in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, located on the shore of Issyk-Kul, hosted traditional international kuresh competitions, which were held jointly with the Kyrgyz Kurosh World Cup. The tournament brought together 170 athletes, judges and representatives from 11 countries, which underlines the growing popularity of this type of wrestling in the international arena.

To organize the competition, the President of the International Koresh Federation Dzhaudat Minnakhmetov formed a delegation led by the Chairman of the Federation Board Ravil Nogumanov, Olympic silver medalist Denis Pimankov, as well as representatives of the panel of judges.

During the competition, five sets of awards were contested in various weight categories, including fights in the categories up to 65 kg, up to 75 kg, up to 90 kg and the absolute category (over 90 kg).

Holding international koresh competitions in Kyrgyzstan has become a good tradition and an important part of the implementation of the memorandum of cooperation between the International Koresh Federation and the International Kyrgyz Kurosh Federation. These events are aimed at developing and popularizing koresh and kyrgyz kurosh at the global level. Let us recall that earlier two major joint events took place in Russia: the World Championship in Tatarstan and the World Cup in Moscow.

It is worth noting that in 2026, Cholpon-Ata will again host wrestlers as part of the next World Nomad Games. Koresh, as one of the most spectacular and authentic types of wrestling, is included in the preliminary draft of the Games program, which emphasizes its importance and growing popularity in the international arena and a confident position in the world union of ethnosports, under the auspices of which the Nomad Games are held.
