On August 31, 2026, the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event took place at Bishkek Arena, the largest sports venue in Central Asia, with a capacity of 51,000 spectators. The ceremony was part of the closing program of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, as well as the leaders of 16 countries and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. President Vladimir Putin personally greeted the Russian national team, emphasizing the importance of Russian athletes’ participation in this international multisport event.
The 2026 World Nomad Games have set a new record in terms of geographical representation: athletes from 112 countries are taking part in the competitions — the highest number of participating countries in the history of the Games. The previous record was 102 countries.
Around 3,000 athletes are participating in the competitions. The Russian national team is one of the largest delegations, featuring athletes from 33 regions of the Russian Federation who will compete for medals across all 43 disciplines on the program.
Koresh Belt Wrestling is represented at the Games as one of the wrestling disciplines, alongside other national forms of wrestling and martial arts, including Kazakh Kures, Kyrgyz Alysh, Turkish Ashyrmaly Aba Güreşi, and others.
