Rais of Republic of Tatarstan and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic discussed the joint development of traditional types of wrestling

On June 5, in the city of Cholpon-Ata, within the framework of the IX meeting of the Steering Committee of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Conservation Program (GSLEP), a bilateral meeting was held between the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of the International Koresh Federation Ravil Nogumanov.

The parties discussed deepening cooperation in the economic, environmental, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as prospects for cooperation in the field of sports, in particular, the development of national types of wrestling.

The Rais of Tatarstan noted that the national wrestling of the Kyrgyz Republic kyrgyz kurosh and traditional Tatar wrestling koresh have deep historical roots and significant technical similarities, and are already recognized in the international arena. He said that major joint competitions in these sports are planned in Russia in 2025: the World Championship in Tatarstan and the World Cup in Moscow. Rais expressed hope that similar events will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic in the future. In addition, he proposed including kuresh in the program of the VI World Nomad Games, which will be held in Kyrgyzstan in 2026.
