An International Koresh Belt Wrestling Tournament Held in Baku
An international Koresh Belt Wrestling tournament was held in Baku (Republic of Azerbaijan) from 15 to 17 November 2025. The event brought together athletes, coaches, and experts from several countries.
The organization and execution of the tournament were ensured by an official delegation of the Koresh Belt Wrestling Federation, headed by the Chairman of the Federation’s Board, Ravil Nogumanov. The co-organizer of the tournament in Baku was the Azerbaijan Association of National Sports, represented by its President Kazim Gurbanov. The tournament’s ceremonial events were also attended by the Association’s Vice President Samir Abdullayev.
Day 1: Master Class
The first day of the event featured a training and methodological seminar. The master class was conducted by Ruslan Nurgaliev, a titled Russian Koresh Belt Wrestling athlete and international-category referee, and Ruslan Mamatov, vice-champion of Russia, Russian Master of Sport in freestyle wrestling, international-category referee, and chief referee of many international tournaments.
The master class covered key techniques and tactical approaches, sparking strong interest among athletes and coaches. Participants had the opportunity to practice skills under the guidance of recognized experts.
Day 2: Preliminary Stage of the Tournament
On the second day, preliminary competitions were held with the participation of more than 120 athletes. The contests were conducted in strict accordance with the regulations, with official protocols prepared. Based on the results of the preliminary bouts, the finalists were determined.
Day 3: Final Stage of the Tournament
On 17 November 2025, the decisive matches took place, determining the winners of the international Koresh Belt Wrestling tournament. In the finals, 8 athletes in each of the 5 weight categories competed. Athletes from seven countries took part: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye.
The tournament in Baku became an important step in strengthening international sports cooperation and promoting Koresh Belt Wrestling.
