From May 16 to 18, 2025, the international koresh competition "CIS Championship" was held in Bolgar, Russia. The qualifying competitions were held on May 16 in Moscow, the preliminary fights were held on May 17-18 in the Olimp sports complex in the city of Bolgar. The championship ended with ceremonial events and a gala match held on May 18 on the territory of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve as part of the Izge Bolgar Zhyeny congress - the culmination of the cultural program of the XVI International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum".
The final of the gala match brought together the best koresh wrestlers from the Commonwealth of Independent States, who competed in ten weight categories.
The winner of the main prize of the competition - a car from the head of the Republic of Tatarstan - was a representative of the Russian team, Tatarstan resident Radik Salakhov, who won in the absolute weight category. The main prize was presented to the winner by the head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the president of the international belt wrestling koresh federation Dzhaudat Minnakhmetov.
In different years, the competitions in Bolgar were attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin and the state adviser of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, as well as delegates from various regions of Russia and representatives of the spiritual administrations of Muslims.
More than a hundred wrestlers from all CIS countries took part in the competitions. As part of the ceremonial events, an impressive strength show was also held with the participation of the Guinness Book of Records record holder and vice-champion of the world in kuresh Dmitry Khaladzhi, who demonstrated bending a 6-meter metal beam with an emphasis on the neck. The strongman from the Donetsk People's Republic has been popularizing koresh in Russia and on the world stage for several years.
