The city of Novocheboksarsk hosted the international Koresh competition as part of a large-scale multisport event, the 2nd World Combat Sports Games. Koresh was a key part of the extensive competition program, which included 18 sports.
Over 6,000 athletes from 39 countries participated in the event. The top athletes from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan competed in the Koresh wrestling finals.
A delegation from the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, headed by Chairman Oleg Matytsin, attended the Koresh competition. On the same day, Ravil Nogumanov, Vice President of the Russian Koresh Federation, participated in an extended committee meeting and was awarded a committee award.
On the main competition day, winners were determined in the four main weight categories: 65 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg, and 100 kg. The grand final in the open category was a highlight of the tournament's official closing ceremony. In the final bout, Russian wrestler Radik Salakhov defeated his Kyrgyz opponent, Mirlan ulu Bakhtiyar, with a clean throw.
In the unofficial team standings of the Games, the unified Russian team won, with Uzbekistan taking second place and Kyrgyzstan taking third.
The tournament was organized by the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Government of the Chuvash Republic, and the Russian Union of Martial Arts. The event commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and the Year of Defender of the Fatherland.
